Mini Fundraiser
March 1, 2008 14 Comments
for your not-so-humble blogger — on march 15th i will go on spring break. i scheduled a trip to california. this is the first time in my 22 years i will fly on a plane. i am scarified. i am going to visit my best friend from undergraduate school. will be in the san diego area, with a stop off in anaheim at disneyland (first disney trip!) and generally kickin’ it with a person i consider a sister. but the problem is i scheduled this trip early in the year because i feared that if i put it off any longer (i’ve been saying i’d visit my friend since…2005?) i would never go. and i expected to have more money stowed away but many unforeseen financial circumstances arose this semester, and i will barely have enough money to get through the school semester.
so this mini fundraiser is not tug-at-the-heartstrings serious, it will only last until march 14th, and i will sincerely appreciate anything you can offer. in exchange for donations of $20 or more, i will do a donor’s choice entry on any topic. just e-mail me and let me know what you want.
(to be honest doing this feels pretty weird, but i think i’m shocked at how my pride tastes like dark chocolate as i swallow it. like 100% dark. very bitter. principled baby blogger stubbornness, cease! hit the picture of the cute toddler on the sidebar to donate.)

Of course, I’d be happy to help you with this. I’m not getting paid until March 10th, but once I do, and if I can actually work out somewhat of a budget (should be possible), I’ll donate some to you then.
If you can get enough money for this, do you have transportation to the airport? I don’t mean to make things weird or anything, but I’d drive you there if you need transportation.
my grandma’s gonna take me.
thank you anyway.
You’re welcome, good stuff.
You’re going to have a great time. Do you have a Paypal account or something so that I can help make sure you have a great trip?
I hope so! linkee to paypal
Oh! I wish I could afford to give you $20 so I could ask you to talk about “Diary of a Tired Black Man”! Can’t do it, though. I can swing $10 after the 7th if that will help.
I don’t know what that is but the title alone is giving me the creeps. I’m going to go Google it now and pray my eyes won’t burn…
Have fun! Wish I could do more.
Enjoy your trip to Anaheim. I went to Disneyland when I wasn’t much bigger than that toddler. It was 1970. We took the Santa Fe railroad out of St. Louis, back when Union Station was a train station, not a shopping mall. My mom brought a bunch of fried chicken, fruit and some Hostess fruit pies so we wouldn’t have to spend an arm and a leg in the dining car. I grabbed the top bunk, but I didn’t get to stay there. I was trying to turn on the radio, but ended up calling the porter instead. I was banished to the lower bunk for indiscriminate pushing of buttons.
Come to think of it, I’ve been indiscriminately pushing buttons ever since!
Naah, really—enjoy yourself a bunch. I hope you enjoy yourself at least as much as I did!
Note to Self: Indiscriminately push buttons to summon porters.
I like indiscriminately pushing buttons, too! And I’m wondering what rides to look for; the ones that go upside-down are out. My friend is just under 5 feet; she can get on the rides and get in the harnesses, but when the ride starts to go upside-down she feels like she’s going to fall out of the seat. And she describes that as Not Cool.
Syliva – I just got back from Disneyland/California Adventure (they have separate entry fees but there is a buy-one-go-to-the-other-the-next-day-free thing going currently). My favorite ride on the planet – one of my favorite THINGS on the planet – is the California Screamin’ roller coaster at Calif. Adventure. I am afraid of heights and flying and cannot stand most of the rides at Magic Mountain, for instance, but this fast, intense, adrenaline-inducing ride makes me laugh the whole time. I highly recommend it.
As for Disneyland itself…
Personally I like the popcorn and Tollhouse cookies on Main Street the best out of everything in the damn park… But I have been going every so often since I was a kid, so maybe my Disney Magic-Appreciation setting is worn down…
Thunder Mountain is fun, I hate Space Mountain, many of the kids’ rides are good for a laugh (Peter Pan, etc.). Try to get Fast Passes as much as you can. Manufacture a tear in the time/space continuum so that you can insert an extra several hours to come to Los Angeles and get hugged by me. Thank you.
Go at night if you can. I don’t know if they still have the Electric Parade at dusk, but it is a hoot. Night time is better because there are fewer people, older people and you can go on the rides over and over again!!
I like Space Mountain, do they still have Indiana Jones? And the Haunted House is mad fun. I used to love the goofy Pirates of the Carribean. But my fave is definitely Indiana Jones. Have fun!!!(Oh, and eat Churros!)
I look at your words, Carmen and Joan, and all I see is “cookies, popcorn, and churros.” And “mountains” of various types.
But California Screamin’ sounds like an awesome ride and I will have to try Indiana Jones, too. Thank you both for your suggestions!
