Why do radio stations keep hiring DJs who lack the class to become frat boys, let alone quality entertainment? The latest from 104.1 FM “The Truth” (ha!) in Arizona: renaissance jackass Jon Justice thinks it’s funny and appropriate to paste a photo of a woman onto a piñata and then let his rape fantasy freak flag fly on video. The woman in question: human rights and pro-migrant activist Isabel Garcia.  The racism and sexism continues in the follow-up webisode.

Now I agree with brownfemipower that any woman’s face on that piñata is wholly unacceptable, especially after the history of white men raping brown women in this country for economic and political gain — not to mention personal perversion and general hatred directed at women’s bodies. But it especially grates me as a believer in human rights to think about this cabrón keeping his job after this disgusting and dehumanizing stunt. It frightens me to see people tacitly condone the idea that someone disagreeing with the politics of a woman of color has artistic license to objectify and to simulate sexually violating her body.

Though transforming a powerful woman you cannot cower into silence into a pliable object for your perversions is not new or unfamiliar, it’s still as despicable now as it was at any other time. And there are consequences for that, here and in the next life.
